Another freezing cold one this morning. Standing on the beach waiting to go in was testing – about 8°c. Water temp about 17°c, actually felt warm – almost. But the marine life was feisty. Something had rattled their cage. Stung across the jaw about half way to Shelly Beach, then across the chest. On the way back stung up the left arm and in the middle of my back. It was choppy and wind blown on a bit of a NE wind so I swallowed a lot of water and was getting a bit anxious.
At Manly point I came across Jan Davies treading water and waving frantically. She instructed me to stop and look under the water. It was brilliantly clear and I was surrounded by a forest of Jimbles, their tentacles hanging down like so many gossamer fishing lines.
It was an eerie sight – I was swimming in Jimble soup! The Manly welcoming committee! I swam gingerly through them and manged to avoid further incident. I am covered in red welts which have itched all day. Other than that – it was a great swim! Water cold without being freezing, good company and swell manageable. I didn’t go to gym today. Tired after weekend walk. I will get to the end of the year very fit but very weary. Still only working three days a week.
