Big day today. Since I had surgery five months ago I’ve had much difficulty wearing leather shoes. Straight out of hospital I couldn’t wear any shoes at all. My foot was too swollen. I could fit into joggers about a month after surgery. For the first couple of weeks I went into work wearing soft leather Sperry Hightop boat shoes. After about thee months I could wear soft Italian leather slip on shoes. What I wanted to do was wear a pair of elastic sided R. M, Williams riding boots. Impossible. I’ve tried it a couple of times in past months. No way. Foot still too swollen and muscles in my foot couldn’t handle the pressure. Then last week, on Friday, a breakthrough. In the morning, I manged to get into a pair of stiff English leather Loake shoes and wore them to work. They are hard as gun barrels. I needed a shore horn but got the right one on. It was a bit tight but not too bad. Walked all the way to the ferry in them. Then tonight I thought “Time to go for the doctor. I’m going to try and wear the R. Ms” Got the boots out of the cupboard. Haven’t worn them this year. Little bit of mould on them. Got the shoe horn. Wrestled them on! Can’t describe how fantastic it felt.

No more wardrobe malfunction
I immediately ran over and played Mark Knopfler’s, A Quality Shoe. Have a listen. Don’t you love Mark Knopfler? He has a song for every occasion. I bet he wears R Ms.
Since I broke my leg in Revelstoke, six months ago I have not been able to wear men’s stiff leather shoes. This has complicated going to work properly dressed and meant that I copped a daily reminder of how swollen my leg and foot was. Today I manged to finally get into the last pair of hold out shoes – a pair of leather R M William’s riding boots. The elastic sides meant there is no boot in creation that is harder to get on your foot. My wardrobe rehabilitation, at least, is now complete. Ya-bloody-hoo!:
